Way back in 1999, a humble community choir began in Melbourne’s inner north. Fast forward 20 years, and that little group has grown into one of Melbourne’s most exciting and vibrant choirs. We can hardly believe it ourselves, and many of us have been there for most or all of those 20 years!

We’re working very hard on lots of exciting projects to mark this most momentous milestone, including writing a special song, recording our third album and planning a spectacular 20th birthday concert / CD launch.

Over four days of Easter 2018, Shaking The Tree choir traveled from Melbourne to the Tasmanian Tarkine Wilderness under the auspices of the Bob Brown Foundation’s Tarkine in Motion project. This project invites artists of diverse media to immerse themselves and find inspiration in this unique natural environment, and share this with the world in the campaign for its preservation.

Currently 86% of the Tarkine is not protected from exploitation and degradation through logging and unregulated 4WD access, and the campaign for its protection is seeking to achieve World and National Heritage Status and a return to indigenous guardianship.

Shaking the Tree’s journey has left us with unforgettable experiences of the beauty and value of this precious environment and we are now passionate advocates for its protection.

Some of our Shaking The Tree members are joining forces with Expressive Women’s Choir for two performances of The Events, a play starring Catherine McClements at the Malthouse Theatre this month.

The play centres around a community choir, who are on-stage for every scene, and perform many songs throughout.

We’re delighted that On The Turning Away, our video clip of the Pink Floyd song we dedicated to Asylum Seekers has been viewed 6,425 as at Nov 2014, 7,431 as at Feb 2015 times from people all around the world! Oops, now we’re in May 2105 we better update that to nearly 8,500!

It’s a couple of years on and we’re now up to nearly 25,000 hits on the clip with some lovely comments from people all over the world.
